History
The Journal of Education was founded in 1875 as a result of the union of several journals that were published in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut; the publication was named The New England Journal of Education. Following the addition of the Kindergarten Messenger in 1876 and the Education Weekly of Indianapolis in 1885, the publication was purchased in 1886 by the Reverend Albert Edward Winship, who changed the name to the Journal of Education: for School People in Massachusetts and Beyond. After a 47-year tenure as editor, Reverend Winship was succeeded by Anson Wood Belding, and in 1951, the Journal was sold to Boston University School of Education. In the fall of 2009, the Journal of Education will mark another milestone when it will become a refereed publication. |
