Boston University's "Team Support" Advisory Program
Professor John McCarthy and graduate students in coaching and sport psychology run an academic coaching and life skills mentoring program twice a week at The Boston English High School called "Team Support." As part of the Life Skills curriculum, English High student-athletes are encouraged to participate and organize "community action projects." Serving dinner to the less fortunate at the Pine Street Inn was the joint community action opportunity planned with the New England Patriots players and 16 participants in the Team Support advisory program. The New England Patriots who participated were special Teams captain Larry Izzo, runningback Laurence Maroney, and receiver Chad Jackson.
Featured in the video were English High Juniors:
- Matthew Hicks (football) and Vanessa Bonheur (soccer)
- BU Doctoral student Cassie Pasquariello (coaching), who led all the students from English High School on the T to the Pine Street Inn on the bitter cold night
- Greg Cartin (Sport Psychology and Counseling), who also works with the Team Support advisory and was on hand to help things go smoothly
