Congratulations on your admission to Boston University School of Education. We look forward to welcoming you to our community. The Graduate Student Services Office is here to support you as you move forward with this process. Below please find a New Student Checklist to assist you with the admissions and enrollment process. In addition, please review the following subsections of this webpage for useful information for admitted students.

1. Accept your offer of admission and submit your tuition deposit online! (You should receive an email with instructions).

3. Review Job Openings for Graduate Assistantships and Apply

SED offers three types of Graduate Assistantships including Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships, and Administrative Assistantships.  Priority consideration for teaching assistant positions will be given to doctoral candidates who have relevant experience.  Resumes and cover letters must be submitted via email to the contact person specified in the job posting. 4. Contact Your Advisor and Register for Classes

We recommend that you contact your advisor early to start your conversation with him or her. Doing so is important because faculty members are often away from campus during the summer term. Your advisor will be able to guide you with course selection, academic interests, and more. In addition, discuss with your advisor the recommended start term for your program. Some programs recommend a summer start instead of a fall start.

To register for classes, visit the StudentLink. Click on ‘Academics’ and then ‘Registration.’ Please Note: If you wish to withdraw or defer after registering for classes, you must contact the Graduate Student Services Office (617-353-4237). You cannot fully withdraw from all of your courses online.

5. Review Financial Assistance Information

6. Create a BU login name and Kerberos password

For access to BU’s webmail and other internet services, students need to have a login name and Kerberos password. This account will help in contacting your advisor and registering for classes. Detailed information will be sent to you from the Admissions Office upon receipt of your Enrollment Reply Form and tuition deposit. Once you create your account, please remember to check your BU email regularly as this will be your primary email account for the University. You may set up email forwarding to another email account. It can be accessed at

7. Meet University Compliance Requirements via the StudentLink

To be compliant with the University you must complete:

  • Health Information: Please view Incoming Health Requirements
  • BU Alert Phone Number
  • Settle Student Account
  • Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Law Requirements
  • Update Current Address

These requirements can be found via the StudentLink and can be completed once you have established a Kerberos username and password.

9.  Get Your Terrier Card (BU Student ID)
