Karen E. Bohlin, EdD

 

Karen E. Bohlin is the former director of the Center for the Advancement of Ethics and Character. Her dual research interests are how students learn to internalize virtuous dispositions over time and how literature sheds light on the movement of the heart towards moral excellence. She is author with Kevin Ryan of Building Character in Schools (San Francisco, Jossey-Bass, 1999) and its companion Resource Guide (2001). She has also published work on character education in the Journal of the Association of Teacher Education, Education Week, the Journal of Education and elsewhere. Dr. Bohlin is presently completing a book for secondary and postsecondary teachers of English, Teaching
Literature: Awakening the Moral Imagination
(London: RoutledgeFalmer, 2004). A former middle and high school English teacher, Dr. Bohlin has served on several boards and as an educational advisor on the national, state and local levels. Dr. Bohlin is a member of the National Schools of Character Blue Ribbon Panel and the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) National Commission on Character Education and currently serves as Head of School at the Montrose School in Natick, MA.
