How do I apply for admission?

Do you offer conditional acceptance?

No. We do not offer conditional acceptance under any circumstances.

Is admission to Boston University School of Education competitive?

Admission to Boston University School of Education is selective. The exact admission rates vary by degree level and program, and also fluctuate from year to year. We suggest that you focus on making your application as strong as possible.

How do I enter my Grade Point Average (GPA) if I am a current student, if my GPA is not on a 4.0 scale, or if my school does not calculate GPA?

If you are currently a student, please report your GPA up through the prior semester. You are asked to provide your GPA on the scale that your institution uses (e.g., 4.0, 4.3, 5.0, 15. 100, etc.). If your institution does not calculate GPA, please leave the GPA and GPA scale fields blank on your application.

Can my application fee be waived?

To request an application fee waiver, please email  Please note, free waivers are rarely granted.

If you are a Boston University employee, current TFA Boston corps member, or qualified City Year affiliate, please contact the Graduate Admissions Office at prior to submitting your application to request a fee waiver.  Do not submit your application until you have contacted the Graduate Admissions Office.

Can I submit my application if my recommenders have not completed the online recommendation?

If you have entered the names and contact information of your referees and if the other portions of your application are complete, then you may submit your online application.

How do I know if my application is complete?

First, please make sure you have submitted all the required application components. You will receive an email 5-10 business days after submitting your online application, which will let you know if your application is complete or if required information is missing.

Can I apply for multiple programs?

Applicants are discouraged from applying to multiple programs for the same semester.

How do I apply for a dual degree?

Dual degree applicants must apply to and be accepted by each School separately. Typically, applicants apply and enroll at one School and then apply to the other School after completing one semester. Applicants may also apply to both schools simultaneously. For more information please visit our Policies page.

I wasn’t accepted to the program, can I reapply?

Yes, you may reapply to the same or to a different degree and program as your previous application. For more information please check the Policies webpage.

My program of interest is on moratorium. What does that mean/When can I apply?

The moratorium means that we are currently not accepting applications for this program. At this point, we do not have any information on when or if the moratorium on applications will be lifted. As soon as further information is available, it will be posted to our website.
