In his chapter, Professor Rossetti describes the key components of one example of successful co-teaching from an inclusive kindergarten class in an urban public school. “When I first observed in their classroom I assumed Mrs. Rooney and Mrs. Green had been teaching together for years because of the ease with which they effectively collaborated and taught almost 30 culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students, half with IEPs receiving special education services. Yet, it was actually their first year working together” (p. 212). Until enjoying the opportunity to watch these skilled practitioners and collaborators in action, Rossetti had mostly known the “turf battles” between general and special educators that present barriers to the co-teaching model of inclusive education. The successes of this professional partnership emanated from a solid foundation of student-centeredness. They believed that all students could learn, and they did not want to stand in the way.
