International Symbiosis Congress to be Convened in Poland Led by Dr. Zook in July
More than 300 science researchers and educators from 30 countries will gather in Kraków, Poland in July to share research results, methods, and ideas at a conference organized by Professor Douglas Zook in collaboration with his colleagues at Jagiellonian University’s Institute of Environmental Science.
Dr. Zook serves as Vice-President of the ecology-based International Symbiosis Society. He will open the session with a visual-based tribute to symbiosis and evolutionary biology pioneer Dr. Lynn Margulis, who was a frequent collaborator with Dr. Zook and took time from her extraordinary schedule to work with teachers here at the School of Education. Professor Margulis passed away this past November.
The PERL Library of SED now features in the Sustainability Resources Center section a Professor Lynn Margulis Scholar Corner. The area features a large display of the late Dr. Margulis and a few selected highlights of her professional life, which included many visits to SED working with teachers and students in collaboration with Dr. Zook.
Dr. Zook will also lead a session on effective ways of teaching symbiosis and other life science disciplines, calling upon his nearly twenty-five years of often innovative pedagogy.
