Professor Zahner Accepted to Two Faculty-Mentoring Programs at the AERA and STaR

Professor Bill Zahner, a newly appointed Assistant Professor for Mathematics Education for SED, was recently accepted to participate in a new faculty mentoring program through the American Educational Research Association (AERA). This program will be sponsored by Division C of AERA. The program, entitled 2012 AERA Division C New Faculty Mentoring Program (NFMP), will take place  in Vancouver this April.

The NFMP has three main goals (from the AERA webpage):

  • “to provide an interactive seminar with relevant information and support for new faculty, addressing areas of concern such as new faculty roles, creating scholarly collaborations, securing external funding, and the major activities associated with tenure;
  • to provide each new faculty participant an individual mentoring opportunity with a senior scholar who will provide direct feedback on a particular work in progress and related scholarly endeavors; and
  • to facilitate peer networking and collaboration activities among Division C new faculty.”

At the NFMP, Professor Zahner hopes to connect with distinguished scholars, network with new colleagues, and learn skills and techniques to achieve success as a new professor.

Professor Zahner has also been accepted to Service Teaching and Research (STaR), a mathematics education specific faculty mentoring program. This program will take place over the summer.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students at the School of Education benefit from the community feel of a small school along with the resources of a large university. Our students are in the field in both urban and suburban schools as early as their first year at SED.

Graduate Students

Talented graduate students from around the world prepare to become teachers, counselors, administrators, and more in as little as one year at the School of Education. Our students engage in diverse aspects of education both in the classroom and the field.
