Barreca Motion Analysis Laboratory
The Barreca lab focuses on postural control and understanding the mechanisms of sensorimotor motor adaptation and learning that enable postural activity to be well matched to current task and environmental conditions. Researchers are especially interested in understanding how children develop adaptive postural control and applying this research to the rehabilitation of children with developmental disorders that affect postural control, such as cerebral palsy.
The laboratory equipment includes an OPTOTRAK motion analysis system, two AMTI force plates, and an EMG system.
Researchers are currently studying changes in postural activity that occur when adults and children of different ages adapt their reaching movements to novel forces that are applied by a robotic manipulandum.
