Tuesday, March 29, 2005
(Boston)- A variety of great-tasting, healthy food alternatives labeled “Sargent Choice” are now available for purchase in select locations on campus, thanks to a collaborative effort between Boston University (BU) Sargent College nutrition program, the BU Nutrition and Fitness Center and BU Dining Services. Sargent Choice, where nutrition science meets culinary art, aims to provide additional satisfying, nutritious food choices to the BU community.
Currently, a variety of Sargent Choice muffins and cookies is offered at the café in the College of Arts and Sciences and will be offered in the new Fitness and Recreation Center . Choices include banana walnut, wild almond berry, apple walnut, carrot raisin, pumpkin raisin and zucchini muffins as well as peanut butter chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies.
Free samples of these new products will be available Tuesday, April 5–Friday, April 8 from 10:45 a.m.-1 p.m. in the CAS café.
“Our goal is to show the BU community that healthy food can be delicious,” said Stacey Stimets, coordinator of the BU Nutrition and Fitness Center . “We also want to help consumers understand the ingredients of “good nutrition” and make it easier to make healthier food choices everyday.”
All Sargent Choice foods are made from 100% whole grain and contain no trans fat. They also have a reduced content of sugar, saturated fat and sodium and a higher content of fiber.
“The current culture is embracing healthier lifestyles. Our goal is to provide more options for these health conscious patrons,” said Joshua Hubbard, director of BU Dining Services. “Sargent is a great on-campus resource that can help us expand our healthy offerings to the BU community.”
BU Sargent College and BU Dining Services will continue to combine expertise to enhance nutrition education and healthy choices available on campus.
