Makechnie Study Center

Where you study can make a big difference in how well you study. The recent renovations of the George K. Makechnie Study Center (MSC) in Sargent College have made it one of the best study spaces on campus—inviting, comfortable and filled with natural light. The new MSC  is one of the only spaces on campus that can claim LEED certification. Read more about the improvements.

The Makechnie Study Center, located in Sargent College at 635 Commonwealth Avenue, Room 237, offers:

  • Ten computer workstations for student use, equipped with CD and DVD, Internet connections, word processing, spreadsheet, database management and specialized curriculum software.
  • Four quiet study rooms for working in groups
  • A Computer Lab (Room 236)
  • Wireless Internet Connectivity throughout the MSC plus two study tables equipped with power and wired Ethernet ports
  • A video editing suite and media viewing facilities
  • Media equipment, from microphones to LCD projectors, which students, faculty and staff may borrow
  • Sargent College’s Information Technology Department (Room 235), providing technical support to faculty and staff
  • A copier for student use, which accepts coins, dollar bills and Convenience Points
  • A small library of reserved Sargent coursework materials for students

To reserve a study room

Students must reserve the study rooms for their own use. Click on the link below and follow these steps:

  • In the calander to the right, select the day you would like to reserve.
  • Click on the calendar below durring a free time.
  • Sign in. If you have not created a account previously, please do that now.
  • Create a reservation. No reservation can be longer than 3 hours.

Library Services

The MSC’s small library holds reserve materials for Sargent College classes. Students can check out materials for two hours at a time by presenting their Boston University ID card.

Professors who wish to place items on reserve should download the Reserve Materials Information PDF for instructions. Then download and print the Reserve Materials Form and bring it in with the reserve items.
