Eat, Drink, Win! (Continued)

She chose to attend BU Sargent College for her masters of science with a concentration in nutrition because of its great reputation, “not to mention the location” she added.  “Boston has a plethora of higher education opportunities,” Suzanne explained, and the “main selling point for Sargent was the combined program with Simmons College; I was able to accomplish two things at once, get a master of science and become a registered dietician!”  She was also quick to point out her excitement about learning from Clinical Assistant Professor Robbie Durschlag, of the Department of Health Sciences.  “Professor Durschlag was also a major selling point, as she is science based and pushes employability.”  Eberle felt that these were only some of the things that were going to prepare her for the field.

“Sargent gives you a strong clinical background and the chance to work and learn from credible health professionals” she said of how the College prepares its students.  With an internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Suzanne felt like she hit a “gold mine of information,” and that Boston was a great city for medical professionals.

Now as a dietician and nutrition coach, Eberle is most proud of her book, Endurance Sports Nutrition: Second Edition.  She sees the book as a way of paying back the world of sports, and more specifically to the discipline of running, which gave her so much by helping to coach and teach others.  She said that writing gives her the ability to “help people get all they can out of running.”  With her book, she hopes to “inspire fitness enthusiasts and competitive athletes to eat better, to understand their bodies better, to not count calories, but to make the calories count.”

There is a great focus on nutrition in our society, and Eberle believes that the ability to make good food choices, and develop healthy eating habits builds the foundation for health and well being.  “No matter the age or physical ability, all people only get one body…healthy foods equal a healthy body, which equals a healthy mind,” she teaches.  Her goal was to make a comprehensive guide for people to consult when training or looking for healthy alternatives when eating.  “People need someone to make sense of science and turn it into practical information,” and this is exactly what she does in this readable science based book.
