Transfer Policies
Transfer Students from outside of Boston University
BU Sargent College welcomes students who have been or are enrolled as undergraduate degree candidates at another college or university. The Admissions office accepts applications for transfer admission; go to http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/transfer/ for further information. Applicants for transfer admission must file their application by April 1 for September admission and by November 1 for January admission. Certain programs at BU Sargent College admit students for September admission only; some require prerequisite coursework to enter at the junior year.
Applicants for transfer admission must submit:
- BU Application for Admission
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended
- Official secondary school transcript, including proof of graduation or equivalent
- Official test scores from the SAT I or the ACT
- At least one letter of recommendation from a professor or college administrator
- A Transfer Student Status Report from all colleges attended
- An essay as described in the Application for Admission
- Undergraduate Bulletin transfer student information
- Office of Undergraduate Admissions website
Intra-University Transfer Students
If you are looking to transfer from within Boston University to Sargent College, please make an appointment with Deborah Claar. She will evaluate your coursework credits and map out a preliminary schedule.

Once you have met with Deborah Claar and are ready to apply, she will request that you submit the following:
- A one-page, typed essay explaining why you are applying for admission to the specific BU Sargent College program you chose
- A Program Change Form including your local address with box or apartment number
Please submit applications by April 1 for fall admissions and November 1 for spring admissions.
Note: Students may not transfer into any BU Sargent College major during the first semester of freshman year. There are also no transfer opportunities into the undeclared option. Applications may be submitted once you have completed one full semester at Boston University unless otherwise noted. Also, transfer applications for most programs will be accepted at any point up to the beginning of the junior year.
Transfer Program Policies & Prerequisites
Athletic Training
The Athletic Training program accepts transfer applications. A GPA of 2.0 is required. Potential transfer students are encouraged to meet with the program director to map out a plan of study.
Human Physiology
The Human Physiology program accepts transfer students in the fall and spring semesters and a GPA of 2.0 is required. Potential transfer students should be aware that this concentration may require an extra semester, summer session, or year beyond the customary four years.
Dietetics & Nutritional Science
The Dietetic & Nutritional Science programs accept transfer students in the fall and spring semesters to both the nutritional science and the dietetics majors. Potential transfer students must have a 2.5 GPA to apply and should be aware that this concentration may require an extra semester, summer session, or year beyond the customary four years.
Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy program accepts freshman and sophomore transfer students in the fall and spring semesters. Students must be accepted into the BS/MSOT program prior to the beginning of their junior year in order to complete all course requirements. A 2.7+ GPA is required by the end of the sophomore and junior years.
Seven prerequisite courses must be completed with the minimum grade:
1. CAS BI 106 Human Anatomy: C grade
2. CAS BI 211 Human Physiology: C grade
3. SAR HS 369 Gross Human Anatomy: C grade
4. CAS MA 113 Statistics (or MA115, PS211): B- grade
5. CAS PS 241 Developmental Psychology: B- grade
6. CAS PS 251 Psychology of Personality: B- grade
7. CAS PS 371 Abnormal Psychology (or SAR HP 412): B- grade
Complete 18 credits in Human Occupation courses found on the OT Office course-site at http;//blackboard.bu.edu/. (Transfer students’ minimum may be lower than 18 credits, and an individualized plan will be developed with their OT advisor.)
Physical Therapy
The Physical Therapy program accepts sophomore and junior transfer students in the fall and spring semester. Students must apply prior to their junior year to complete course and practical experience requirements for certification. You must have a 3.0 GPA to be considered for this program.
Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences
The Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences program accepts students in the fall and spring semesters. You must have a GPA of 2.0 or better to matriculate into this program.
