Six-year Accelerated Combined Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training/Doctor of Physical Therapy
- Direct freshman entry – once you’re admitted through Boston University’s regular admissions process, you are admitted into the program. We have no separate admissions procedures.
- Direct matriculation into the physical therapy graduate program the summer after your junior year. You do not have to apply to graduate school.
- Multiple and extensive physician interactions – on the field, in the classroom, in the operating room, in the emergency room, in the athletic training room, and in the clinic.
- An emphasis on evidence-based practice. We teach what’s most current.
- Early clinical education. Start your interactions with patients during your freshman year and continue throughout the program. One experience during the summer after your senior year is completed with a dually credentialed (ATC/DPT) clinical instructor.
- Over 15 affiliated athletic training sites in the Boston area with over 70 clinical instructors – all focused on creating real-life learning experiences for you.
- Over 1,000 affiliated physical therapy sites across the country for full-time clinical experiences during the graduate program.
This unique program takes advantage of the overlap between the athletic training and physical therapy professions and gives you the opportunity to acquire a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in six years rather than the usual seven.
Highlights of our program include:
Following completion of the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, you can take the Board of Certification exam. Once the exam is passed and a state licensure is obtained, you can practice as an athletic trainer while completing the remainder of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Following completion of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, you are eligible to obtain state licensure and practices as a physical therapist
