This program is for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and have received a Didactic Program in Dietetics Verification Statement. You apply to the program through the National Computer Match. When the program is satisfactorily completed, you will be awarded a master of science degree, receive a Dietetic Internship Verification Statement, and be eligible to sit for the registration exam. The master of science degree must be completed before the Dietetic Internship.
Required courses: The program requires completion of eight courses plus a nutrition practicum course and one graduate elective.
Nutrition Practicum: The practicum is a four-credit course in which you will spend 150 hours working with a Registered Dietitian or other health care professional. Students have worked in a variety of settings including an eating disorder clinic, a nutrition support team, a hospital-based clinical research center, and a wellness center.
Dietetic Internship: The DI (HS 703) is a six-credit, 29-week, full-time course beginning in June or January following completion of academic coursework. Sargent College has clinical sites at major teaching and community hospitals in the greater Boston area. All offer excellent opportunities to observe and participate in a wide variety of specialties. Our DI is accredited by the AND. It requires tuition payment plus a nonrefundable $1000 fee to the internship site. A car may be necessary to travel to your DI site.
Your degree: A master of science degree in nutrition. You’ll also receive a Dietetic Internship Verification Statement after completing all Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics competencies and the MS/DI program evaluation.
