Registered Dietitian Status
A Registered Dietitian is recognized as a food and nutrition expert in the United States. Many jobs in food and nutrition fields require this credential.
There are four criteria that must be met to become a Registered Dietitian:
- You must earn a minimum of a bachelor’s degree at a US regionally accredited university or college.
- You must complete a series of courses required by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics known as the Didactic Program in Dietetics either as part of an academic degree or by themselves. (Note that the Dietetics option at BU meets all of these requirements.)
- You must complete an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics accredited Dietetic Internship.
- You must pass a national registration exam.
