Bachelor of Science in Health Science

Program Focus: This program offers students an interdisciplinary approach to study health science, the broad perspective of health and wellness at the population level and to explore health care systems. Preparing students to work in a health-care environment and to pursue graduate study in clinical and non clinical health professions.

Possible Career Paths: Graduates may pursue employment in the health care field (e.g., public health, community agencies, insurance industry, hospitals, or pharmaceutical industry) may pursue graduate programs in a clinical profession (physician, physician assistant, nursing or physical therapy) public health, health administration, or laboratory science. Careful selection of available courses will optimize admission to desired graduate degree programs.

Degree Program

The curriculum is based on a strong foundation in the health sciences. The first two years include core courses in the biological and chemical sciences, including human anatomy and physiology, a humanities core, and a health care systems core.

Electives may be employed to pursue further study in a discipline-specific health field, or to explore broader-based interests. During the final year, students complete an internship at one of a selection of health care sites in the Boston area, or at one of our many internship sites abroad or in Washington DC.

Students who plan to apply to degree programs in medicine, dentistry, or physician assistant will take an alternate sequence of basic science courses. Students will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science and, if selected, a minor in a specific health concentration or other discipline. Students registered in this program are eligible for an accelerated five-year Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Health degree offered in conjunction with Boston University School of Public Health.
