No other undergraduate program at Sargent College opens the door to so many career possibilities. Our approach to health science is interdisciplinary. Our focus is on global public health. And our expertise lies in preparing students to excel in a wide range of health care environments—or to enter graduate study for careers in medicine, clinical practice, public health, research, or non-health fields like business and law.

From classroom to clinical sites

What can you expect from our BS in Health Science curriculum? A strong foundation in the health sciences. An understanding of population health. A close-up look at several global public health topics. And invaluable experience putting your knowledge to work in clinical and public health settings.

Core courses during your first two years will include the biological sciences, humanities, and social sciences. In your junior and senior years, you’ll take advanced global public health courses, culminating in a practicum at a health care site in the Boston area or abroad.

Find your perfect practicum

One of the program’s most exciting opportunities awaits you in your final year: gaining first-hand experience in your area of interest by completing a practicum or internship. You might choose to work in a public health department, clinic, hospital, or not-for-profit organization in Boston. Or you could immerse yourself in a European health care system through our Dublin internship or Geneva internship program. Boston University’s strong relationships and collaborations with organizations throughout Boston, New England, and the world will give you plenty of options, so you’re sure to find one that fits you perfectly.

The BS/MPH program: a head start in public health

The health science major is an excellent choice if you wish to pursue our accelerated Bachelor of Science/Master of Public Health (4+1) program. By earning both degrees in five years of full-time study, you can get an early career start in this growing field.
