Project HEALTH

Project Health Project HEALTH is a non-profit organization that mobilizes undergraduate volunteers to provide high-impact services to low-income families and, in the process, transform our healthcare system into one that is more effective and more just. Its on campus office is housed within Sargent College enabling students to do follow up client work on campus.

Boston University undergraduate volunteers staff a Family Help Desk that works within the healthcare system to screen families for the non-medical needs that impact their children’s health – things like food, housing, childcare, and employment – and then connects them with local resources to meet those needs. Project HEALTH currently works in the Pediatric Emergency Room at Boston Medical Center and will be developing an additional program this year at Upham’s Corner Community Health Center in Dorchester.

Project HEALTH also has a program called STRIVE, a mentoring program for adolescents with sickle cell disease that empowers and supports them in managing their condition and reaching their full potential. The STRIVE program runs at the Mildred Ave Community Health Center in Mattapan.

This invaluable volunteer experience is especially relevant to Sargent students going into health care professions.
