Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Chair, Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training at Boston University Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The department offers professional and post professional degrees including: DPT, BS/DPT, BS/AT, AT/DPT, tDPT and a research doctorate in Rehabilitation Sciences (ScD). Multiple opportunities exist within the College, University and the Boston area to work collaboratively with leading clinicians and scholars. Join a renowned clinical and research faculty in a department with a long history of academic excellence and of training cutting-edge clinicians and researchers. In addition to academic programs, the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training also includes: the Boston University Physical Therapy Center, the Center for Neurorehabilitation, and the Athletic Enhancement Center. These clinical centers provide rehabilitation and athletic enhancement services to the University and Boston area communities, as well as research and training opportunities for faculty and students. The department chair will report directly to the Dean of the College.

Qualifications


Candidates must hold an academic doctorate (PhD or equivalent), and qualify for tenure at the Associate Professor or Professor rank at Boston University. The position requires administrative experience and an ongoing line of research with a history of external funding. In addition, the candidate should be prepared to develop a clear vision for the department that reflects emerging health care practice patterns as well as the educational and research missions of both the Department and the College. Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills are equally important to this position. Licensed physical therapists will be given preference.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead a team of program and clinical directors in all administrative and academic affairs of PT, AT, ScD, and the clinical centers.
  • Actively seek collaborations and grant funding.
  • Lead the Department in the implementation of a University-wide strategic plan.
  • As there are open faculty positions within the department, the successful candidate will help to shape the future of the Department by recruiting a team of top level colleagues to join the vibrant core faculty Level of Appointment.

The Chair's position is a full-time, tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level.
