It all started with cookies and muffins in 2004.
The Sargent Choice Nutrition Center at the College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College introduced our signature Whole Grain Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe to a group of faculty and staff in a pilot nutrition and physical activity program. Recipes for healthy cookies and muffins were so good that participants wanted to see them available to everyone on campus. In 2005, we joined forces with BU Dining Services to really shake up BU’s eating habits. Our goal? To improve the eating choices and ultimately the health of the entire BU community—30,000 students and 8,000 staff members.
A tall order, certainly. But we believe we have a great menu for change. We’re a team of registered dietitians, graduate and undergraduate nutrition students, as well as passionate student volunteers from all over the University. Working with Dining Services chefs, managers, and staff, we use the latest evidence-based nutritional guidelines to create and test our own recipes. For your convenience, we offer a delicious variety of Sargent Choice options across the Charles River Campus. We also show you how to use the Sargent Choice principles to create your own healthy meals at home through our cooking videos, recipes, and nutrition programs.
Besides knowledge about nutrition, everyone on the Sargent Choice team has one more important qualification: we’re people who love to eat. We think everything you eat should always taste delicious. Exotic international dishes and home-style hamburgers. Hot, crusty pizza. Crunchy salads and creamy desserts. Who wants to give that up? Not us. And neither should you.
