Landsdowne Social 2018

The fall semester is approaching, which means that SAGE is welcoming new graduate engineers to BU! To welcome new students into the SAGE community and to welcome back returning students, we are hosting our annual SAGE Landsdowne/Bill’s Bar Welcome (Back) Social on Thursday, September 20th. The event will take place at Bill’s Bar and Lounge from 7PM until 10PM, with appetizers and free drinks for SAGE members. Following the event will be live band karaoke next door at the Lansdowne Pub, so stick around and get to know your fellow engineers even better.

Itinerary: We have Bill’s Bar reserved for SAGE for the event. Food will be available from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. SAGE members will be able to get two drink tickets upon arrival, and can request more for as long as they are available after 8:30 PM. You will need to bring a valid photo ID (e.g. license, passport), as they will be checked at the door. New students should stop by the Graduate Programs Office to get their SAGE sticker before the event, as we will be checking for it when handing out the drink tickets. Guests are welcome, but will need to purchase their own drinks.

2018 Fall Hiking Trip

GWISE+SAGE Fall Hiking Trip
Date and Time: Saturday, September 8th from 8:00am to 5pm
Location: Mount Monadnock, Jaffrey, NH
Buses: Leave at 8:00 AM from Marsh Plaza
Cost: $6 + $2 SAGE members, $8 + $2 for guests — (2$ cash on the bus for park entrance fee)

GWISE and SAGE are teaming up to host a hiking trip on Saturday September 8th to Mount Monadnock, NH.
The bus will leave at 8:00am from in front of Marsh Plaza (735 Commonwealth Avenue). We will then return late afternoon around 5pm.
Attendees must follow all park rules.

SAGE Whitewater Rafting Trip 2018!

Date: Saturday, August 25, 2018
Time: Start- 7:30am, End- 5:00pm
Location: Zoar Outdoor, 7 Main St, Charlemont, MA 01339

Come join SAGE for an exciting day of rapids on the Concord River in beautiful western Massachusetts! This trip includes a trip traversing class III rapids and a picnic lunch midway down the river.

The rafting trip will be run through Zoar Outdoor, a company out of western Massachusetts. Pickup from BU will occur at 7:30 am the morning of August 25, and drop everyone back at Boston University around 5 pm.

Zoar Outdoor will need to collect various personal information to ensure everyone’s safety on the river, such as date of birth and local address. Any dietary restrictions should also be specified to allow for a smooth riverside lunch.

Tickets are available for SAGE members and their guests, but in limited quantities!

Dinner Cruise tickets on sale now!

Welcome to the annual SAGE Dinner Cruise! We will take a scenic cruise around Boston while enjoying dinner, a night of dancing, and a cash bar! Your ticket includes 2 free $14 drink tickets. This year’s event will be $55 for SAGE members and $70 for guests. We have a limit of one guest per SAGE member.

The boat cruise will be on Saturday, April 28th, to ensure we all have enough time to dress up and arrive in style. We will meet at Rowe’s Wharf, Gate B and boarding starts at 7pm.The boat leaves the dock at 8pm and so you should make sure you are on board before 7:30.

This will be a semi-formal event with a DJ and dance floor. The dress code per the contract with Odyssey cruises is as follows: Collared shirts for men (jackets and bow-ties requested). For women, cocktail wear, a dress or dressy-casual attire. Dark or dressy jeans are acceptable. However, we strongly recommend no casual jeans, t-shirts, shorts, athletic shoes or flip flops.

Please be advised there will be no refunds! If there is someone on the waiting list we can facilitate an exchange but there is no guarantee. If you are not on our list, you will not be allowed on the boat. Please let us know if you have any questions by emailing sage@bu.edu.

SAGE at AcousticaElectronica!

SAGE will be attending AcousticaElectronica, an immersive theater show with dance, music and circus arts. AcousticaElectronica sets its tale in the world of art’s past, resurrecting its most intriguing ghosts and planting them here in this new future. Dorian Gray, Carmen, Pierrot Lunaire, Odette the Swan, and the Conductor all travel through time, struggling to discover who they were and what they are to become. This show blends elements of electronic and classical music, dance, circus arts, and immersive theater with the infectious energy of a nightclub to bring you an evening you won’t encounter anywhere else.

Save the Date: SAGE at the BSO featuring Yo-Yo Ma

Join SAGE at the BSO on Thursday, March 29th for what is sure to be one of this year’s musical highlights! Renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma joins the BSO and violist Steven Ansell for a performance of Richard Strauss’ 1897 tone poem Don Quixote, conducted by Andris Nelsons. The program also includes the American premiere of a piece by German composer Jörg Widmann and Mozart’s brief Symphony no. 23, which Mozart composed at age 17. Keep an eye out for tickets!

Paint Nite Spring 2018

It’s creativity on tap with SAGE’s Paint Nite 2018! Join us as we take over The Paint Bar on Newbury St to wine, dine and unleash our creative spirit. Participants are taught by one of the instructors in a relaxed step-by-step painting session. Hors d’oeuvres are included, and beverages will be available for purchase. All equipment is provided and no experience is necessary. Doors open at 6:30pm on Thursday, February 15. It’s everything a great nite out should be- friends, food, drinks and a one-of-a-kind painting that you get to take home!

SAGE @ BU Hockey

Hello SAGEers, come join us at Agganis Arena on 1/13/2018 as BU Terriers Men’s Hockey welcomes Providence College to town. Puck drop is at 7:00 PM.

Tickets are $5 dollars for SAGE Members, and $7.50 for guests – each SAGE member who signs up is allowed to bring at most one guest, first come first serve.

2018 Ski Trip Info & Ticket Sale

SAGE is preparing for another Ski Trip in January!

Location
As always, this annual tradition is the best way to kick off the 2018 Spring semester! This year, we are heading to Sugarloaf Resort in Maine, which features lots of slopes for all skill levels. Surrounded by Maine’s Western Mountains in the heart of the Carrabassett Valley, Sugarloaf offers the only lift-serviced above treeline skiing in the East. Offering 1,230 skier and rider accessible acres and a continuous 2,820ft vertical, Sugarloaf is Maine’s second highest peak. The annual snowfall totals 200 inches and 14 lifts provide access to 161 trails and glades and 3 progressive terrain parks. We will lodge at Sugarloaf Village Condos, which is in the heart of Sugarloaf’s main base area and features full kitchen amenities.

Cost
This year, the trip costs $160 for SAGE members and $200 for SAGE guests. Every SAGE member who signs up for the trip is allowed to bring 1 guest (non-SAGE member) with them. Please keep in mind that we only have a limited number of tickets for guests given that we are limited to only two buses.

Tickets will go sale on Eventbrite starting at 10 am on November 15th

The ticket includes 2-day lift pass, 2 nights of lodging, and charter bus from/to BU. Optional equipment rentals are available. Lessons will be on sale at a later date.

Where/when:
Meet at Marsh Chapel at 2PM on Friday 1/26 to load buses. Depart at 2:30PM for Sugarloaf. We will return to BU Sunday (1/28) evening.

2018 Ski Trip – Save the Date

It is almost winter and SAGE is preparing for another ski trip in January! As always, skiing is the best way to kick off the 2018 Spring semester! We have had a very successful turnout (~100 skiers/boarders) in past years, with both first timers and veterans attending.

This year, we are heading Sugarloaf Resort in Maine, which features lots of slopes for all skill levels. When: January 26-28
Busses will leave from BU early in the afternoon on friday, we will go skiing all day Saturday and Sunday and we will return Sunday evening.

Where: Sugarloaf in Maine. We will be staying at the Sugarloaf Mountain Village Condos.

Prices: $160 for members, $200 for guests (Rentals and lessons sold separately!)
