Kheireddine Bekkai was born in 1970 in Algeria. After graduating in translation from the University of Algiers, he moved to Paris where he studied Arabic and German at the Sorbonne. He also studied journalism and French as a second language. In 2000, he moved to New Orleans and taught Arabic at Tulane University for four years.
