Cardona picAt a ceremony in Spain’s national theater, the Teatro Español, our colleague Rodolfo Cardona, University Professor Emeritus, has been honored with the Leandro Fernández de Moratín Prize for Theatre Studies by the Asociación de Directores de Escena Española: one of Spain’s highest honors for a scholarly work about the theater. Prof. Cardona was recognized for his book, with Anthony N. Zahareas, Re-visión del Esperpento, new, expanded edition, about playwright Ramón María de Valle-Inclán. The award was presented at the Teatro Español, Spain’s national theater.

In a glowing review, Margarita Santos Zas praises Cardona’s and Zahareas’ masterly treatment of Valle-Inclán’s theater and praises the book as a guide both for scholars and beginners.

Prof. Cardona founded Anales Galdosianos (a scholarly journal dedicated to the work of novelist Benítez Pérez Galdós), the Boston University Translation Seminar, and directed and guided BU’s University Professors program.
