Dr. Raffo formerly held a teaching certificate and a tenured position in Italy for sixteen years in Pisa and Milano. At Boston University she has developed and is teaching courses on Italian social, economic, and political developments. Currently, she is the language course coordinator for Italian, advisor for the Italian Students' Association (ISA), and the liason with the Italian Consulate General. She also directed the Boston University study abroad programs in Padua and Venice in 1989-1990. She is interested in contemporary authors and maintains contact with them during her visits to Italy. In addition, she is currently working with the Opera Institute at the School of Fine Arts, where she is teaching Italian courses and coaching in the production of Italian operas.

Dr. Raffo's research includes work on folk theater and Commedia dell 'Arte, post-war film, and studies on Pirandello, Calvino, and Fenoglio. Her personal interest is on the interaction between historical and cultural events with its reflections in musical expression.
