Are pets allowed?

Pets are not allowed in our apartments.

Can I extend my lease?

You must come into the office and fill out an extension form if you wish to extend your lease. We do not extend leases past August 15. If we approve an extension, you will be charged for the additional days during which you occupy the apartment. When you complete a lease extension form you will also be required to fill out a vacate notice.

Can I install an air conditioner?

You need to obtain authorization from the Maintenance Department to install an air conditioner.

Can I sublet my apartment?

No. Subletting is strictly prohibited.

Do the apartment buildings have laundry facilities?

Not all of the apartment buildings have laundry facilities. Please inquire when viewing apartments.

Do you charge a broker’s fee?

No

Do you match roommates?

We do not provide roommate matching services nor do we resolve roommate disputes.

How can I view available apartments?

How much is parking?

Please contact the Maintenance Department at (617) 353-4102 for information about Rental Property parking.

If I get locked out or need extra keys, whom should I contact?

During office hours, you will need to come to the maintenance office to request keys. If it’s after hours or on the week-ends, you will need to contact your student superintendent.

Is cable television available?

Most – but not all — apartments have cable television outlets. You should ask when you are looking at apartments. Cable television is not included in the rent and is provided through a private provider.

Is the lease term for one year or one academic year?

All Lease terms are one full calendar year (12 months).

What is required upon move-in?

The first month’s rent, a security deposit equal to one month’s rent, and a $50 key deposit.
Most local private landlords and Realtors will charge – in advance – the first month’s rent, the last month’s rent, and a security deposit equal to a month’s rent as well as a broker’s fee generally equal to a month’s rent.

What is the difference between a room and a studio?

What is the rent for a room/studio/one-bedroom/two-bedroom?

Rates vary from apartment to apartment. Rooms start at $675. Studios start at $1,250. One-bedroom apartments start at $1,400. Two-bedroom apartments start at $2,000. Please keep in mind that these rates are starting point rents only. Rents vary according to apartment location, size, utilities, amenities, and current demand. The majority of rents will be more expensive than the starting rents listed here. Rents are subject to change. Rents are determined by prevailing local rental market conditions.

What types of apartments are available?

What utilities are included?

The utilities included in rent vary between buildings. Please ask when you are looking at apartments.

When is the rent due?

Rent is paid in advance and is due no later than the first day of each month.

Where are the apartments located?

Apartments are all located on or adjacent to the Charles River Campus: along Bay State Road, at 580 Commonwealth Avenue, in the South Campus area, and in Brookline. All apartments are located within a 10-minute walk from most of the Charles River Campus facilities. Students enrolled at the Medical Campus also have access to the apartments at Harrison Court.

Where can I rent furniture?

Most apartments are leased unfurnished. Furniture is available for lease through American Furniture Rental (http://www.bu.rentfurniture.com/)

Where do I get payment coupons?

Payment coupons will be provided to you when you sign the apartment lease. If you need more payment coupons, please contact the Accounting Department at (617) 353-9833

Where do I send my rent checks?

All monthly rental checks must be sent to Century Bank and Trust Co., c/o Boston University Rental Property Management, P.O. Box 22, Medford, MA 02155. A payment coupon must be included with each rental payment.

Who do I call if something is broken?

For all maintenance problems, please contact the Maintenance Department directly at (617) 353-4102.

Who is eligible to live in BU apartments?

The RPM apartments are open to matriculating graduate students of Boston University, as well as to faculty and staff who are currently employed by the University.
Boston University graduate students are also eligible to reside in our apartments for a period of one year following graduation from their respective school or college.

Who owns and maintains the apartments?

Trustees of Boston University.
