More background about Boston University Medical Center:

Boston University Medical Campus also shares clinical departments with Boston Medical Center. Boston University is not licensed to provide medical services and does not own or operate a hospital.  Rather, Boston University Medical Campus is closely affiliated with and physically joined with the principal teaching hospital for the School, Boston Medical Center.  At the Medical Campus, Boston University does operate a licensed dental clinic through the School of Dental Medicine, and various licensed clinical testing laboratories.

The Medical Campus clinical faculty members typically provide care to patients of BMC and to patients of the faculty practices conducted under BUMC’s umbrella non-profit Faculty Practice Foundation.  BUMC clinical faculty members also supervise medical students and residents-in-training in these practices and at BMC.

The clinical academic departments of BUMC are chaired by individuals who serve simultaneously as chiefs of the various clinical services at BMC.  BU Medical Campus faculty members in these clinical departments who are physicians, for the most part, hold clinical staff appointments at BMC and may conduct research in BMC’s research space.
