ECE Seminar: Zhenghan Zhu

Speaker: Zhenghan Zhu Postdoc Candidate University of Rhode Island Light refreshment will be available 2:45 PM Faculty Host: Prof. Vivek Goyal August 15, 2017 at 3 pm PHO 339 Title: Some contributions to detection theory with applications to radar signal processing and model selection. Abstract: Statistical signal processing is an important area of research with extensive applications to many fields such as communications, radar/sonar, biomedical engineering, finance, image processing and so on. This talk focuses on some new contributions to detection theory and their applications to sensor signal processing and statistical inference. First, I will present an information-theoretic radar transmit signal waveform design. Second, I will introduce the detection of nonstationarity in space-time adaptive processing. Then, a complex parameter Rao test theorem, which provides a new fundamental tool for complex-valued signal processing follows. Lastly, a novel model selection algorithm termed Bayesian exponentially embedded family (EEF) rule with new insights into the long-lasting problem "what is model complexity?" will be introduced. Bio: Zhenghan Zhu obtained the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in May 2017. His research interests include statistical signal processing, information theory, spectrum analysis and their applications. He received the M.S. degree in microelectronics in 2011 and the B.S. degree in electrical engineering in 2008, both from Shanghai JiaoTong University, China. He worked as an application engineer for Teradyne in 2011. He received several academic excellence awards including the Enhancement of Graduate Research Award from URI and the National Science Foundation student travel award for ICASSP.
