BU Spark! Technovation Speaker Series

BU Spark, the Institute’s new initiative to support student-driven innovation and entrepreneurship, is pleased to host its very first Technovation Speaker Series with Rebecca Norlander, a BU Computer Science Alumna.

This event will include an interactive roundtable discussion where panelists will share their journey and answer questions about starting their own innovation venture as well as will as an innovation showcase where panelists will show concrete examples of their MVP over the years. This event is open and free for all Boston University students, faculty, and staff from every discipline. Refreshments will be provided.

Panelists for this event include feature notable BU Alumni or professionals in the Boston area, who have experience or knowledge about starting innovation ventures, such as:

Rebecca Norlander, CEO, Samepage Health

20+ year technologist, including 19 years at Microsoft, Rebecca played a myriad of roles from Office team member, Windows XP leader, and technology strategist for Ray Ozzie the Chief Software Architect. Making the leap from a large corporation to the start up world, she joined Illuminate Ventures in 2010 as Executive in Residence.

After helping manage both parents through serious medical conditions at the end of their lives, Rebecca started Health123 with Scott and Rachel because she is passionate about what technology can do to make the world a healthier place.

Alexandrea Mellen, Founder, Terrapin Computing LLC

Alexandrea Mellen is a computer engineer specializing in mobile app development and information security. She has presented her research at Black Hat, the largest information security conference in the world, and MIT. Alexandrea has spent a great deal of time mentoring startups in the Boston community as a partner at the Dorm Room Fund and as a mentor for multiple universities, including Hult Business School. She also worked as an engineering consultant for startups around Boston before founding her own startup, Terrapin.

Durjoy (Ace) Bhattacharjya, Founder of Medical Records

Durjoy (Ace) Bhattacharjya is an experienced entrepreneur and interactive advertising executive based in Boston. Before trading the agency world for the startup world, Ace worked for some of the world’s greatest brands including Ford, IBM, Mercedes Benz, Starwood, JetBlue and Pfizer. He is an advisor and early stage investor to a number of companies including: DirectDerm, Amino Apps, Toscanini’s Ice Cream, SocialSign.in, Digital Economy Ventures and Sharalike.

Ace is currently the Founder and CEO of medicalrecords.com, a Boston-based healthcare IT firm. Previously, Ace was Vice President of Interactive Marketing for the renowned Athletes Performance, a Polaris Ventures portfolio company. Ace formerly managed Advanced Media for the United States Tennis Association / US Open and their 850K paying members.

Ace has a BA from Boston University in International Relations / Economics and is a mentor to BU’s Kindle program as well as a member of BU’s Med-Tech / Physical Sciences Ignition Award committee. As member of the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, Ace is a judge for the Webby Awards. He is also a judge at the Harvard Business School Venture Competition.

Ricky Engelberg, VP of Digital Innovation at Converse/Nike

Ricky Engelberg is the Vice President of Brand Communications, Digital and Media at Converse. Most recently he played a key part in the creation of the Nike+ Fuelband and Nike+ Running. Ricky has held various roles in Digital over his 13 years at Nike.
