Research at Boston University

From the Vice President
and Associate Provost for Research

Welcome to the 2013 issue of Research at Boston University.

Throughout these first months in my new role as Vice President and Associate Provost for Research, I have been extremely impressed with the quality of our faculty and student researchers across both our campuses at BU. The power of BU lies in its people: the faculty who dream up and test bold ideas, the staff who support them, and the students who learn and draw inspiration from their successes—and sometimes even their failures. The quality of research at Boston University has never been stronger.

To build on these existing strengths, we must continue to support all types of research and scholarly activity across BU. This means ensuring BU’s financial sustainability by looking creatively at the funding mechanisms that will help us weather this difficult economic climate. To this end, we must reinforce and enrich existing connections with our partners both inside and outside the University, and look strategically for sources of funding that will help us advance our mission.

In the coming months, I will be working with my colleagues across the University to bring these initiatives forth. I look forward to providing future updates on our progress.
