Laboratory Safety Training

Step 1: Laboratory Safety Training — CRC or BUMC

BUMC/CRC Laboratory Safety Training must be completed by Principal Investigators and all personnel (faculty, staff, students, trainees, visitors) who will work with biological agents described above before starting work. Training is two hours long and is given at least monthly on campus.

Step 2: BSL-3 Training if applicable

OEHS provides BSL-3 training upon request that must be completed by all personnel (faculty, staff, animal technicians, students, trainees, visitors) who will work with BSL-3 agents. For training requests, please contact the Biosafety Manager in OEHS.

Step 3: Select Agent Training if using Select Agents

OEHS provides Select Agent training upon request that must be completed by all personnel (faculty, staff, animal technicians, students, trainees, visitors)prior to receiving privileges to order, store, or use select agents. For training requests, please contact the Biosafety Manager in OEHS.

Step 4: Shipping Training if shipping samples

Shipping Training must be completed by all personnel who ship human or animal specimens of a research or clinical nature (including Select Agents). For a schedule of upcoming classes and to pre-register, please visit the EHS/RPO Event Pre-Registration Form(BMC) and EHS/RPO Event Pre-Registration Form (BUMC).

If you are planning to ship materials other than biologicals from your laboratory, OEHS staff members must ship the materials for you.
