Your work with controlled substances is covered by the Controlled Substances Program at Legacy Boston University Charles River (Legacy CRC). For general information regarding the program and related regulatory resources, go to the Program Overview.
A CS Program Guide provides a summary of the legacy CRC Program as it applies to you, the investigator. It includes helpful information ranging from how to apply for federal and state registrations, how to acquire, secure, track usage, transfer, and dispose of controlled substances, how to terminate your registrations, and what to do in the event of suspected noncompliance or diversion.
To get started as a Principal Investigator working with controlled substances, you must fulfill the following requirements:
To get started as a co-investigator, technical staff or trainee (undergraduate or graduate student or post doctoral trainee), you must:
- Have your name listed in the University documentation submitted by the Principal Investigator. To find out whether your name is listed, contact your Principal Investigator or the Controlled Substance Administrator.
- Complete, and keep current, your individual training. Training will be provided by your Principal Investigator and refresher training opportunities will be provided by the Controlled Substance Administrator.
When you have obtained the approvals and training described in the steps above, you have completed the pathway for Getting Started with controlled substances at CRC.
