Laboratory Animal Care Facility (CRC)
Cagecards
Stock
The standard card is the Stock or Research Card to be filled out as indicated. Any research information should also be added, eg. daily injections of an experimental material, route, amount, person.

Sick Animal
The SICK ANIMAL card should be placed on any cage with a sick animal, and this should be done by LACF, or Research staff. All details should be filled out. This should be called to the attention of the LACF staff if reported by researcher group. This will then be reported to the Veterinarian. Or, if a treatment will be put in place by LACF staff if already an accepted procedure.

Post Surgical
When an animal has had surgery, regained sternal recumbancy, and the animal returned to a cage, it should then receive a Post Surgical Watch Card with all the relevant information filled out. Please do not use abbreviations for the kinds of surgery unless you have already provided it to the LACF/Vet Services.

In Treatment
The In Treatment card then is placed on the cage with directions on what is to be done. This information is usually provided in conjunction with the veterinarian. Included should be any dosage information, route, frequency etc. All info is to be filled out. This should include all dates of treatments and the initials of who the treatments are done by.

When treatments are ended, and the animal is considered to be healthy, this is noted on the card, and then these sick and treatment related cards are to be moved to the back of the cage card holder, behind the stock/research card.
At least daily there should be a date, initials and a brief summery of the health of the animals. Once these have been considered recovered and healthy for at least two days, daily sign off is no longer needed. These daily watches should be recorded by the Research Staff.
