Overview

The Laboratory Animal Science Programs of Boston University are administratively part of the Office of Research Compliance.  The Laboratory Animal Science Program consists of the LACF (Laboratory Animal Care Facility) on the Charles River Campus and the LASC (Laboratory Animal Science Center) on the Medical Campus. Each is managed under their IACUC's Policies, the Guide for the Care and Use of Animals, the Animal Welfare Regulations, and the PHS Policy.  Each has an assurance on file with OLAW/PHS and each is registered with the USDA/APHIS/AC.

Mission Statement
  • Provide quality care for all animals used by Boston University, in a manner consistent with animal welfare regulations and policies, rather for research or teaching.
  • Assist the University and its faculty in meeting the goal of humane treatment of laboratory animals.
  • Assist the faculty in their mission of quality research with respect to the use of laboratory animals while promoting the judicious use of animals in research.
  • To act as a resource center for the faculty on all issues relating to laboratory animals.
