Progress on Bionic Pancreas

Damiano discusses new device for diabetes treatment

In this video, originally posted live on Facebook, Ed Damiano, a Boston University biomedical engineering professor, discusses the progress on his bionic pancreas, a breakthrough device for people with type 1 diabetes. The device, about the size of an iPhone 3, gathers physiological data from the wearer every five minutes, delivering the hormones insulin and glucagon as necessary. Damiano’s work was inspired by the needs of his son, David, who was diagnosed with diabetes as an infant. Damiano founded his public benefit corporation, Beta Bionics, in 2015.
