Town Hall Meetings

Town Hall Meetings

The Research-sponsored Town Hall  Meetings are informal gatherings that provide the members of the BU community with an opportunity to discuss emerging issues and to voice concerns and preferences for the BU research community.  A typical Town Hall Meeting is attended by faculty, staff, students, and senior management, giving everyone a chance to talk personally in a relaxed environment about the things that matter to them. Typically, the organization and leadership at a  Town Hall Meeting are minimal, encouraging people to speak openly.  Both the VP and AVP will attend all meetings unless noted.

We are pleased to announce two Town Hall meetings for the BU research community that are co-sponsored by the Office of Research and the Office of Federal Relations.  Boston University VP for Federal Relations Jennifer Grodsky and consultants from Lewis-Burke Associates LLC will discuss the funding outlook for extramural research at federal agencies for 2013 and beyond.  This discussion is particularly timely as lawmakers debate budget cuts and long-term deficit reduction and as the Obama Administration prepares to release its budget proposal in late March.

Featured speakers from Lewis-Burke Associates include:

  • Michael Ledford – Specializing in DOD, NSF, NASA, and Department of Energy
  • Erica Froyd – Specializing in NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, FDA, and HRSA
  • Carla Jacobs – Specializing in Department of Education, SAMHSA, and National Endowment for the Humanities.

Extended biographies for each speaker, as well as other associates from the firm, can be found at http://www.lewis-burke.com/meet-firm.php.

The meetings will help faculty understand the current federal research funding climate and prepare to connect their research goals with research trends across a range of government agencies.  The presenters will also discuss ways to influence programs and priorities at federal agencies in order to make grant applications more competitive.  Particularly in this challenging budget environment, creative and nimble federal strategies will help faculty capitalize on and create federal opportunities.  The meetings will be offered on both the Charles River and the Medical campuses.
