The Academic Side of the Studentlink

Tip
Did you know that once you are set up with your BU login account and kerberos password you can use the MY | BU portal, which offers single sign-on access to visit all of the Registrar's Office Student Link functions in addition to visiting all of the other BU Office's Student Link functions, your BU email account, Facebook, iTunes, and a host of other internal and external sites and services.

Background Information
The Student Link: is your personal and secure on-line link to student records at Boston University. The Student Link provides access to a variety of important information. Using the Student Link system, you can view and change personal information, such as your address, view your student account, check your grades, confirm classroom locations, and much more.

To access information on the Student Link, you must have a Boston University login name and a Kerberos password. These are the same pieces of information used to protect your account on ACS (Academic Computing System), your Boston University e-mail, your entry in Boston University's electronic directory, and a growing number of computing services on campus.

Getting Access
To obtain access to the Student Link, as well as to receive and send electronic messages through the Boston University electronic mail system (for instance, at www.bu.edu/webmail), you will need to obtain a user name and password for the Boston University Academic Computing System (ACS). You may create a Boston University login name and Kerberos password with or without applying for an ACS account. Visit the Office of Information Technology, Computing Accounts page to set yourself up. Before the account may be used you may be prompted to show your photo ID to the I/O service window in the Basement of 111 Cummington Street. MED campus students may show their photo ID to the Learing Resource Center in the Medical Library at 715 Albany Street, 12th Floor. Faculty and Staff may contact their Department's Administrator.

Please remember that your Kerberos password provides access to important personal information. Safeguard your Kerberos password and do not give it to anyone. Giving your password to anyone or using anyone else's password is prohibited by Boston University's Conditions of Use and Policy on Computing Ethics. Any violation of this policy may be cause for disciplinary action.

You can then purchase the Boston University Internet CD, available for $5.00 from the Office of Information Technology's front office (located on the street level), also at 111 Cummington Street. At your computer, use the installers available on the CD to get connected to the Boston University network from home. For additional information about obtaining an ACS account, please contact the Office of Information Technology's Personal Computing Support Center by phone at 617 353-7272, by email at pcsc@bu,edu, or on-line at www.bu.edu/pcsc.

Thr Personal Computing Support Center operates a Tutorials Office at 100 Cummington Street. The instructor-led tutorials require pre-registration by web or by phone at 617 353-1234. Your additional computing-related questions can be answered by contacting the Office of Information Technology directly at 617 353-2780, by email, or on the web.

Registration by WebReg using Student Link
WebReg: WebReg enables you to register, add and drop classes, list or print your class schedule, and receive a summary of your status. Before WebReg can be used, you must have a BU login name and a Kerberos password. To acquire these see Getting Access above.
Planner: Using the WebReg Planner, you can choose your classes in advance of the official registration date. The Planner can be used to select and adjust your classes prior to actual registration. The Planner saves your selections until you go back and move them to your Schedule. This can be done once the registration period begins.
Registration: You will need an Academic Advising Code (A.A.C.) before registration begins, if advising is required by your school. On the first day you are eligible to register, classes can quickly be moved from your Planner to your schedule. If you did not use the Planner, simply make your class selections, then add them to your schedule. During the registration period, you may register, add, drop, and change your classes as needed using WebReg.
