How to Order a Transcript

Unofficial transcripts for all Schools except LAW, MED*, and SDM can be obtained by visiting the Office of the University Registrar, 881 Commonwealth Avenue, Second Floor, during business hours. You must present photo identification. The Office does not mail unofficial transcripts. In most cases, an unofficial transcript can be produced immediately. It may, however, take as long as 48 hours to produce transcripts for students who attended Boston University prior to 1986. Current students may view their transcript using the Transcript Preview option on the Student Link.

Official transcripts for all Schools (except LAW, MED*, and SDM) are produced by the Office of the University Registrar. Current students can order official transcripts online using the Transcript Preview option on the Student Link. When ordering online, transcripts are $3 per copy and payable by credit card only.

Official transcripts requested in person, by mail, or by fax cost $5 each. The Transcript Request form, usable for either in-person, mailed, or faxed requests, may be downloaded, and is also available at the Office of the University Registrar. Transcript fees are payable by Cash (in person only), Check, Mastercard, Visa or Discover. Written and faxed requests may also be submitted without the form as long as the following information is included:
  • Full name, including any former names
  • Boston University I.D. number or Social Security number
  • Date of Birth
  • School(s) attended
  • Dates of attendance
  • Degree(s) awarded, if any
  • Daytime phone number
  • Complete address(es) of transcript destination(s)
  • Student's signature required

Please fax your transcript request once. Multiple copies of the same transcript request may result in duplicate charges to your credit card.

Requests mailed to the Registrar's Office via an express courier, such as Fedex, UPS, or DHL are processed the day they are received or the next business day. The Office of the University Registrar is closed on Saturday; therefore, paying for Saturday delivery is unnecessary. If you have a business day deadline that must be met, it is strongly recommended that you mail the request to us through one of these couriers.

Requests sent via USPS Express Mail may be delayed an additional day. This type of mail is not delivered directly to the Registrar's Office.

Requests sent via USPS Priority Mail, standard mail or fax may require a significantly longer period of time to process when request volume is high.

The transcript fee of $5 per copy, must accompany the request. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, cash, personal checks or money orders. Make checks payable to Boston University.

If you would like to have your transcripts sent via our express carrier, DHL, there is an additional charge of $14.00 per address, to anywhere in the continental United States. DHL does not deliver to P.O. Boxes. Please call 617-353-3616 to inquire about international rates.

Your transcript(s) will not be released without payment, nor will they be released if you have not fulfilled your financial obligation to the University.

* MED M.A. and/or Ph.D. students can acquire Official and Unofficial Transcripts from the Office of the Univeristy Registrar using the above procedure. Transcripts for LAW, MED M.D., and SDM are issued separately by these schools.
