How to Order a Transcript

Unofficial transcripts for all Schools (except LAW, MED/MD program, and SDM)* can be obtained by visiting the Office of the University Registrar, 881 Commonwealth Avenue, Second Floor, during business hours. You must present photo identification. The Office does not mail unofficial transcripts. In most cases, an unofficial transcript can be produced immediately. It may, however, take as long as 48 hours to produce transcripts for students who attended Boston University prior to 1986.

Official transcripts for all Schools (except LAW, MED/MD program, and SDM)* are produced by the Office of the University Registrar.

A. Online Requests:   Students can order transcripts on the Student Link using the Transcript Preview option. The cost is $4 per copy, payable by credit card only.

B. Requests by mail, fax, or in person:   Alumni and Former Students should use the Transcript Request form which can be downloaded here. Mailed and faxed requests can be submitted without the form provided the information listed below is included with the request. Transcript fees, $6 per copy, can be paid by check (made payable to Boston University), MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express.

Standard mail delivery to international destinations is 3 - 5 weeks. Overnight Service is available. If you would like to have your transcripts sent via our express carrier, FedEx, there is an additional charge of $19 per address to destinations in the continental United States. This additional FedEx charge does not include the fee for the transcripts. (The fee for transcripts is detailed above.) FedEx does not deliver to P.O. Boxes. For FedEx international rates, click here.

Requests mailed to the Registrar's Office via an express courier, such as Fedex or UPS, are processed the day they are received or the next business day. The Office of the University Registrar is closed on Saturday, therefore, paying for Saturday delivery is unnecessary. If you have a business day deadline that must be met, it is strongly recommended that you mail the request to us through an express courier.

Your transcript will not be released without payment, nor will it be released if you have not fulfilled your financial obligation to the University.

* MED M.A., M.S., D.Sc. and Ph.D. students can acquire Official and Unofficial Transcripts from the Office of the University Registrar using the above procedure. Transcripts for LAW, MED M.D., and SDM are issued by those schools.
