Printer Cartridges and Cell Phones: Boston University has partnered up with the Recycling Donation Center to offer all offices and academic departments with a printer cartridge/cell phone recycling program. A pilot has been developed to offer residents at Warren Towers, Towers, and the Student Village with this program as well. To help us expand this program into your office or dorm, please email us.

    Recycling for Used Computer Parts

Offices can contact us to recycle their computer monitors, and the following will happen:

    1) We will instruct the office to fill out a Requisition Form to B&G Trucking to have them pick up the computer monitor.

    2.) We will notify Bob O'Toole of the pick-up at (617) 353-2117.

    2) We will also notify the interested office that they are responsible for payment for B&G's transportation.

    3) OEHS will pay for the actual disposal of the used Monitors.

Jewel Case & Compact Disc (CD) Recycling
Minmally damaged CD's can be repaired with a small amount of toothpaste. Rub toothpaste on the non-label side, with strokes radially out from the center.
To recycle CD's and jewel cases, send pre-paid package mailed to:
    Plastic Recycling Incorporated
    2015 South Pennsylvania

    Indianapolis, IN 46225.

    317-780-6100.

Additionally, unwanted CD's received via mail (i.e. AOL cd's) can be taken care of simply by writing "REFUSED" with a heavy marker on the address label and striking out the encoded address information. BY LAW the postal service MUST RETURN IT to the sender. If it is sent to "Current Resident," just write "REFUSED BY CURRENT RESIDENT."

(this actually works for all junk mail as well...but you should probably open and shred credit card junk mail to prevent identity theft.)

    Polystyrene Packaging Peanuts

These are not easily recycled, but are easily reused. Many packing, shipping and moving stores will take used peanuts. Pack them up in (recycled) bags, and drop them off. Appropriate businesses can be found under "packaging" in the yellow pages. Examples of such busineses include "Mail Boxes Etc." and "The Postal Annex".
