The Recycling Program

Within the past decade recycling of paper, cans, and bottles has become available in student housing, offices and academic departments throughout campus. We are constantly expanding our program and collaborating on projects with Facilities Management and Planning, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, the recycling company Save that Stuff, and the new Office of Sustainability. Our goal is to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly campus, with recycling for all!

Mission Statement

The mission of Boston University's Recycling Program is to implement a convenient, safe and cost-effective recycling program that is available to as many people as possible. We rely on participation and feedback from faculty, staff and students to continuously expand and improve upon existing programs, as well as to develop new recycling/sustainability initiatives. Since recycling at BU is just one action the institution and its members may take to increase sustainability, we strive to provide additional information about sustainable living so students are aware of how to lessen their environmental impact.

Students are invited to gather at Marsh Plaza on Friday, October 23 @ 3pm, to form the shape of "350" for a photo shoot.

350 is an international movement to urge policy makers to reach the goal of decreasing the total level of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere to under 350 parts per million.

Photos of the number 350 taken in different places around the world will be gathered to raise public awareness and appeal for change.

Student groups from Boston University are encouraged to submit an environmentally-themed poster. The group with the most popular poster, as voted by special members of the BU community, will receive $500.
