Michael Culler, Studio Manager/Head Engineer

Michael brings a wealth of classical music recording experience to CFA Audio. Before working at Boston University, Michael worked as an assistant engineer at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and at the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta, Canada, where he had the opportunity to work with many of the leading engineers in classical music recording. He has also worked as an engineer at the New England Conservatory of Music and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and continues to work as a freelance classical engineer in the Boston area. Michael has a professional certificate in Audio Production from Boston University’s Center for Digital and Imaging Arts (CDIA), and a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Vocal Performance) from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

Shane McMahon, Staff Engineer/Audio Coordinator

Shane attended the Hartt School of Music and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Music Production and Technology. While studying at Hartt, Shane was employed for three years by the Hartt Recording Studio as a Principal Engineer.  This position allowed him to gain experience working on projects ranging from classical to jazz to pop, and his work has received awards from the Audio Engineering Society (Finalist, 2005 AES Student Recording Competition; Honorable Mention, 2006 AES Student Recording Competition) and DownBeat Magazine (Outstanding Performance for a Studio Recording, 2006 Student Music Awards).  Shane came to Boston University in 2008 by way of BU’s Tanglewood Institute where he was the recording engineer for the summer before starting full-time at the College of Fine Arts the following fall.
