Irene is a first year Master of Divinity Student specializing in Religion and Conflict Transformation. Through the program, Irene hopes to develop skills to help others who struggle with inner conflict as well as social conflict. She intends to deepen her understanding of how religion can be used to reconcile violence in mind and body of those it afflicts, as well as a better understanding of how religion inhibits this violence and what barriers should be overcome to avoid this. Irene is very excited to use the skills learned in the RCT program to become a military chaplain and help our men and women in arms to positively confront and deal with the physical and emotional violence they are subjected to daily.
Irene writes, “The reason I am interested in the RCT program stems from an encounter I had with God as a teenager. Violence in my own life caused serious problems for me and stunted my development until I was struck by what I perceived to be a divine confrontation, which changed the course of my life. From then on out, I became intrigued by the use of religion and spirituality and its ability to transform conflict.” In response to the influence of the RCT program, she states, “The RCT program has greatly assisted me in understanding my role as a peacemaker and moderator in a world of suffering, and I hope to grow and blossom into this potential.”
