As an Enterprise Architect, Don Francis, was primarily only applying technical concepts to his position. That was before EMBA. He says, “EMBA changed my thought process, giving me more prevalent options to grow my career.”
He says that the program could even adopt Home Depot’s slogan: You can do it, WE can help, saying that EMBA has helped him develop his leadership skills, his confidence, and his ability to communicate effectively at the senior leadership level.
Technology also added another layer to his experience with EMBA. He says that, “the virtual sessions especially the test review sessions, which are usually on a weekday,” were a beneficial advantage because they allowed him the opportunity to attend sessions virtually.
These virtual sessions don’t sacrifice connection. During his time in the program, Francis has connected with numerous senior leadership teams. He says, “The EMBA assignments to interview a person in my organization provided me a reason to connect, which I would not otherwise feel comfortable doing.”
As a part of the program’s capstone trip, Francis was able to make connections in both Chile and Peru. He says of the connections made during his time in EMBA, “Since we were a small number, we came to know each other well and we were more friends than classmates.”
Having individuals from other countries in class among some of his team members brought an added advantage and a global perspective. He says, “…they’d discuss the differences in other countries on the same topic. Discussing cases about the business from other countries or about a multi-national company was noteworthy….”
Working as a team strengthened his skills and allowed him to practice those skills without the fear of failing. EMBA gave him that safe space, he says, “I felt that all the team members were invested in each other’s success.
