How to Apply to the Program

Request a Boston University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences bulletin and application. Address requests to:
GRS Admissions Office, Room 112, 705 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215
You can also call (617) 353-2696 or visit the Boston University College of Arts and Sciences website's Bulletin and Application Request Form.

Take the GRE in time for results to be sent to Boston University by our application deadline of December 1. International students whose native language is not English and who did not receive their undergraduate degree from a US institution are required to take the TOEFL in addition to the GRE. The advanced subject test in psychology is recommended, yet optional for all applicants.

Obtain three or more letters of recommendation from qualified references, e.g. psychologists who served as professors or work/research supervisors. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS TO THE CLINICAL PROGRAM DIRECTLY, ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED AND PROCESSED BY THE GRADUATE SCHOOL FIRST.

Write a comprehensive Personal Statement detailing relevant experiences, personal interests, and career goals. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS TO THE CLINICAL PROGRAM DIRECTLY, ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED AND PROCESSED BY THE GRADUATE SCHOOL FIRST.

Send all undergraduate and graduate transcripts. The breadth and depth of one's transcript as well as the quality are important. A psychology major is neither weighted preferentially nor required, as long as the applicant has a solid background in psychology and can otherwise demonstrate he or she has tested relevant interests and is committed to a career in clinical psychology. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS TO THE CLINICAL PROGRAM DIRECTLY, ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED AND PROCESSED BY THE GRADUATE SCHOOL FIRST.

Please have your applications (SCHOOL and
DEPARTMENT copies) as well as your 3 letters of recommendation, personal statement, transcripts and any other supporting credentials sent in one
package (as you are able--we know that GRE's come from ETS, and Transcripts from your College or University) to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. If submitting your application electronically, please note that your online application does not include and does not require a department copy. You must complete the sections under the "Enter Application" heading and send all supporting credentials under separate cover. Please review the online instructions for more information. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS TO THE CLINICAL PROGRAM DIRECTLY, ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED AND PROCESSED BY THE GRADUATE SCHOOL FIRST.

File all application materials with the Graduate School by December 1. The Graduate School does not forward applications to the Psychology Department until all documents are received. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS TO THE CLINICAL PROGRAM DIRECTLY, ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED AND PROCESSED BY THE GRADUATE SCHOOL FIRST. Please note, applications as well as all credentials and supplementary materials must be submitted and received in one packet by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
