Research Interests

Dr. Palfai completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Yale University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies at Brown University

Dr. Palfai’s primary research interests are: (1) understanding the cognitive-motivational processes that underlie the self-control of addictive behaviors and (2) evaluating brief interventions for alcohol and substance use among college students and those in medical settings.

Research projects include: (1) laboratory studies that test mechanisms underlying addictive behaviors and behavior change, and (2) randomized controlled trials that examine in-person and web-based interventions for hazardous drinking and drug use.
