Netscape (versions prior to 8) and Mozilla Proxy Configuration

Please read all of these instructions first or print a hardcopy before beginning, as you will be unable to scroll the instructions while you are making configuration changes.

1. The first step in configuring your Netscape browser is to locate the preferences configuration panel. This can be found by selecting Preferences under the Edit (or Mozilla/Netscape menu in OS X) menu:

2. When the preferences panel appears, the next step is to load the proxy configuration panel. This is done by choosing (on the left column under Category) the Advanced tab followed by the Proxies tab:

3. Once the proxy panel is loaded, select the Automatic proxy configuration button, and fill in the Configuration location (URL) with the URL of the appropriate proxy configuration file for your campus as shown below.

If your campus is:
Fill in:
Charles River Campus:
http://www.bu.edu/proxy/crc.pac
Law School:
http://www.bu.edu/proxy/law.pac
Medical School:
http://www.bu.edu/proxy/med.pac

4. Finally, click the Reload button and then close all of the panels by clicking the OK buttons. Your browser should now be configured to use the Boston University proxy servers. The first time you try to access an electronic resource licensed for off-campus use by Boston University faculty, staff, and students, you will be asked by the proxy server to authenticate with your Boston University account name and Kerberos password.
