Alejandro F. Botta, Assistant Professor
Alejandro F. Botta, formerly at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, has been named Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible at Boston University School of Theology.
Dr. Botta earned his doctorate summa cum laude from the Department of History of the Jewish People at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel (2001). In addition he studied Egyptology and Assyriology at the Bayerische-Julius-Maximilians-Universität in Würzburg, Germany from 1993-1995; theology at the High Evangelical Institute for Theological Studies in Buenos Aires from 1988-1990; history at the University of Buenos Aires from 1985-1991; and theology at Buenos Aires Biblical Institute in Argentina from 1981-1986.
He has considerable teaching experience in Latin America and Spain, and has delivered lectures at, among others, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, The Oriental Institute (University of Chicago) and in numerous scholarly meetings (Society of Biblical Literature, International Conference for Demotist etc.). His areas of teaching include Hebrew Bible, Biblical languages, ancient Near Eastern history, Jewish history, and Egyptology. His ongoing research projects include the tracing of Semitic words in Demotic (Demotic Dictionary Project, University of Chicago) and the completion of a Namebook of Aramaic Names from Ancient Egypt (Project “Onomastic Studies of Egyptian and Idumean Aramaic Texts” in cooperation with Bezalel Porten, Hebrew University of Jerusalem).
