Welcome to the Office of the Provost. The Provost is the chief academic officer under the president, with general responsibilities for the University's academic programs, personnel, resources, and support services.
The Provost has direct oversight of the fourteen Schools and colleges on the Charles River Campus, as well as continuing and extended education, the University library system and Special Collections, international education, military education, the Center for English Language and Orientation Programs, the Environmental Health and Safety office, and the offices responsible for securing external funding for research -- Sponsored Programs and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.
The primary duty of the Provost is to ensure the quality of education and research at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. In chairing the Council of Deans and the Undergraduate and Graduate Councils, the Provost works directly with top administrators to achieve this mission.
Faculty, staff, and students may contact the Office of the Provost to discuss or get information regarding issues such as faculty appointments, research policy, matters of academic and scientific conduct, and academic program initiatives.
In addition to this work, the Provost acts as liaison to various committees of the Board of Trustees including the Academic Affairs Committee, Committee on Athletics and Physical Education, and the Committee on Student Affairs.
