CRC Eye Tracking Workshop #2: Data Collection & Analysis

  • Starts: 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2019
  • Ends: 3:15 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2019

The Communication Research Center (CRC) is equipped with the technology, software, facilities, and expertise to aid Boston University faculty and student researchers in conducting studies using biometric methods. There is vast potential for researchers in the field of communication and related disciplines to utilize these methods in order to gain more holistic insights into how people feel, think, and behave toward media technologies and messages.

Led by the CRC’s Lab & Research Manager, Susie Blair (susieb@bu.edu), this semester’s workshops will focus on three different biometric modules offered via the iMotions biometric research platform—Facial Expression Analysis, Eye Tracking, and Galvanic Skin Response (GSR). Each module will have two dedicated workshops (one conceptual overview, one guided practicum).

In this hands-on workshop, participants will:

—Learn best practices for collecting usable and reliable eye tracking data, including how to configure eye tracking sensors and sync them with the iMotions platform

—Conduct a mock iMotions study using eye tracking technology

—Break out into small groups to analyze aggregate and individual eye tracking data using Excel to draw preliminary conclusions

Please note: While Workshop #1 is not a prerequisite requirement for Workshop #2, it is recommended that participants new to biometric research attend both sessions. If you would like to attend Workshop #2 and aren’t able to attend Workshop #1, please email Susie Blair (CRC Lab & Research Manager) at susieb@bu.edu.
