On Friday, October 12, 2018 at Boston University’s Morse Auditorium, Music of Reality presents “Reef Music”, an interdisciplinary concert inspired by the research of Sarah Davies, Assistant Professor of Biology at Boston University. In a series of lectures throughout the concert, Dr. Davies will explore the beauty and importance of coral reefs and how climate change is driving their extinction and evolution. Lectures will be interspersed with performances by Marvento Duo (flutist Weronika Balewski and pianist Elizabeth Chladil) with cellist Olivia J. P. Harris. They will perform George Crumb’s Vox Balaenae (Voice of the Whale), an important work that explores the ocean’s journey through different geological time periods, as well as Black Anemones by Joseph Schwantner. Pianist Sophia Subbayya Vastek will also perform world premieres for piano and electronics by Norah Lorway and David Ibbett. Poet Sabrina Sadique will present original poetry, written specifically for this event.
